Bear Viewing

A short flight away is Brooks Camp. Originally set aside because of the volcanic history of this part of Alaska, it was soon designated as one of the great bar preserves in the world. You can sit and watch bears try to catch sockeye salmon jumping up the falls in this river that is a little more than a mile long. Brooks River is also full of rainbow trout and is one of the few places in the world where you can fish with the bears. 				Rob, his staff and guides were amazing. The accommodations and food were also great. I took my 11 year old son with me and both of us fly fished and knocked off 6 species off our bucket list (sockeye, chum, grayling, rainbow, Dolley Varden, and Pink).

Their guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and fishy. We experienced a variety of scenery, fishing out of boat and wading in side creeks. I got to see my son enjoy the time of his life fishing. That’s an experience we won’t forget. His smile from ear to ear warmed my heart. 

The view at the lodge facing the lake was spectacular. Each day you get to witness the sunrise and sunset across the lakes and the mountains with a warm cup of coffee in hand or a cold drink in the evening after fishing. 

Sadly, we had to live but no doubt we will return again to make more memories together. If you get the chance, take the opportunity and visit Alaska with them. It will be worth making memories with family and or friends. Thanks Rob, Greg, Doug, Ty, Steve, Keith, Barrette, Erica and John for taking care of us. You are the best!

				World Class Trout and Salmon Fishing with Budget Pricing My father and I have visited Bearclaw Lodge annually for the past dozen years or more. Although we’ve fished across the lower 48 and in other key destinations (Europe, New Zealand) there is simply nothing that compares with bush Alaska, the Wood-Tikchik river system, or Bearclaw Lodge. When they say 100+ fish days, they actually mean it. We’ve had back-to-back doubles for an hour straight in June. We’ve had days with non-stop dry fly action in July. We’ve seen bead action in August that would blow your mind. We’ve caught boatloads of 24”+ rainbows in a week. We’ve seen the SW Alaska June grand slam (char, dolly, bows, grayling, kings, sockeye) numerous times from clients ranging from beginner to expert. 				I have been four times all the way from Japan taking over 18 hours with long distance international flight and long layover time at Anchorage waiting Penair. 

(Better to take Alaskan once a day jet flight to Dillingham) 

But, It is worth going multiple times, since you can catch almost all species in freshwater in AK. 

I trust the best time to visit is either early July for King and Sockeye or Mid August for Silver. But,Its not too bad to achieve grandslam of salmon in end of July.

The lodge located beside beautiful lake, you can enjoy great scenery on fine day.

Owner Rob and his wife Lisa are taking care of me recommending bear or wine after fishing. 

I am keeping in touch with some of friendly fishing guides even now.
