Rob, his staff and guides were amazing. The accommodations and food were also great. I took my 11 year old son with me and both of us fly fished and knocked off 6 species off our bucket list (sockeye, chum, grayling, rainbow, Dolley Varden, and Pink).
Their guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and fishy. We experienced a variety of scenery, fishing out of boat and wading in side creeks. I got to see my son enjoy the time of his life fishing. That’s an experience we won’t forget. His smile from ear to ear warmed my heart.
The view at the lodge facing the lake was spectacular. Each day you get to witness the sunrise and sunset across the lakes and the mountains with a warm cup of coffee in hand or a cold drink in the evening after fishing.
Sadly, we had to live but no doubt we will return again to make more memories together. If you get the chance, take the opportunity and visit Alaska with them. It will be worth making memories with family and or friends. Thanks Rob, Greg, Doug, Ty, Steve, Keith, Barrette, Erica and John for taking care of us. You are the best!

World Class Trout and Salmon Fishing with Budget Pricing My father and I have visited Bearclaw Lodge annually for the past dozen years or more. Although we’ve fished across the lower 48 and in other key destinations (Europe, New Zealand) there is simply nothing that compares with bush Alaska, the Wood-Tikchik river system, or Bearclaw Lodge. When they say 100+ fish days, they actually mean it. We’ve had back-to-back doubles for an hour straight in June. We’ve had days with non-stop dry fly action in July. We’ve seen bead action in August that would blow your mind. We’ve caught boatloads of 24”+ rainbows in a week. We’ve seen the SW Alaska June grand slam (char, dolly, bows, grayling, kings, sockeye) numerous times from clients ranging from beginner to expert. All of this is thanks to Rob, Lisa, and the incomparable guide team they maintain year after year. When additionally viewed through the filter of price, Bearclaw is a value you can’t beat almost anywhere in the world. Highly recommended.

Fantastic Fishing My wife, a nature photographer, and I, an avid fly fisherman, visited Bear Claw Lodge in early September after meeting the owners, Rob and Lisa Fuentes, at the Safari Club International annual meeting in Houston, Texas, in 2010. They made all the arrangements for us, including our air travel from Anchorage to Dillingham on Penair, where we were met by two guides from the lodge for the van and boat trip to the lodge on Lake Aleknagik just inland from Bristol Bay in SW Alaska. The lodge has spectacular views across the lake, a comfortable lounge and dining room. Our room at the top of the stairs was spacious and next to the bathroom.
Although the lodge was in the process of closing during our stay, we were made to feel right at home by Rob, his staff of six guides, and the cooks. The meals were hearty and delicious - just the thing after a day in the field. The fishing was more than I could have wished for. I drift fished the Alekinak River that runs into the Lake and waded Sunshine Creek at the far end of the Lake. In addition to rainbow trout, which I had caught before in the Lower 48, I caught my first grayling, arctic char, Dolly Varden, sockeye, and silver salmon during my three day stay. My wife had plenty of opportunities to photograph eagles and the spectacular landscapes around the lake. Due to it being late in the season, there were few bears around - which was OK with me as a fisherman.
By the time we left, we felt like we were old friends with the staff. This was a highlight of our trip to Alaska.

I have had quite a few visits to Bearclaw and all have been excellent. The staff does a fantastic job at making you at home and the guides will put you on Fish. I would recommend a trip to anyone no matter your fishing experience. You will be well taken care of from arrival at the Dillingham airport until you dropped off for your trip home

I have had many trips to Bear Claw Lodge and were excellent times. The fishing was fantastic the accommodations wonderful in the middle of bush Alaska. The guides take their time and quite patient with the fisherman. I have hunted and fished different lodges in the lower 48 and in Chile but what stands out from the other lodges is you are taken care of from pick up at the Dillingham airport until you are dropped back off at the airport. Every aspect is explained and your expectation is set as to when you will eat every morning and evening to what time you will meet your guide to start you day fishing. Your arrival back at the lodge is also a known time so you have no surprises. The food is great and very attentive to your likes, dislikes or special diet concerns.

Alaska Fishing Trip of a Lifetime! I stayed at the Bearclaw Lodge on August 2019 and experienced world class salmon and rainbow trout fishing! The Lodge is very nice and comfortable with all the amenities of home and the views from the deck are breathtaking. The food is served timely each day and is hot and delicious. The guides are all very friendly, experienced and knowledgeable and will flat out put you on the fish! You can pick your preference of quality fishing tackle that is provided and catch plenty of fish on either fly or spinning gear. It is without hesitation that I am happy to highly recommend this Lodge and the owners Rob and Lisa which provide a warm and caring family oriented experience. I certainly intend to return soon.

I have been four times all the way from Japan taking over 18 hours with long distance international flight and long layover time at Anchorage waiting Penair.
(Better to take Alaskan once a day jet flight to Dillingham)
But, It is worth going multiple times, since you can catch almost all species in freshwater in AK.
I trust the best time to visit is either early July for King and Sockeye or Mid August for Silver. But,Its not too bad to achieve grandslam of salmon in end of July.
The lodge located beside beautiful lake, you can enjoy great scenery on fine day.
Owner Rob and his wife Lisa are taking care of me recommending bear or wine after fishing.
I am keeping in touch with some of friendly fishing guides even now.
Most of the gears providing including wading gear, but no double hand or switch rod, recommend you to bring your own if you need.

The experience of a lifetime! Rob, Lisa and everyone at the lodge are incredible. We have gone to Bearclaw twice now and we have a third trip booked. Exceptional guides, food and accommodations in a family-friendly environment. The fishing and scenery is exceptional, with multiple species, and big fish. The hardest-working, most personable and talented guides you will find. The gear is great. The lodge accommodations are excellent, and the food is marvelous. We will continue our trips, and we look forward to a new amazing adventure each time.

Have had numerous visits to Bearclaw lodge and all have been the same, fantastic! The lodge is very nice with a very cozy atmosphere to it. It allows the guests ti mingle and really get to know each other. The guides work hard and do a great job. If you're like me and need to know a game plan not to worry it is laid out for you each evening, when breakfast is, when you will cast off, where you are going and with whom. The food is great and you will not go hungry!

Another Incredible Visit! Booked next year too!! Rob and Lisa Fuentes have perfected the southwestern Alaska lodge adventure! We are headed back for our fifth visit this year and we cannot wait to return. This exceptional, comfortable lodge is located on a 14 acre peninsula in the natural beauty of the Wood-Tikchik Park Lake Aleknagik area. The amazing, pristine lakes and rivers are teeming with many species of salmon and native fish. You can catch silver or pink salmon on the fly or with a spin cast, or lure nice big rainbows, grayling, dolly varden or Arctic char on a dry fly, or lure some voracious northern pike on the fly. Stay in the well-equipped Hog Island boats ( very stable, with grippy decks for excellent footing and a front support stand for fishermen to enjoy extra stability. if you choose, or get out and wade either the river, or hike a creek and enjoy some of the best sight casting round. The accommodations and food at the lodge are superb. Every comfort you could want in a wilderness lodge. The incredibly quiet generators and on-demand limitless hot water are great. Internet and phone service is available to keep up with the outside world. The guides are very hardworking, highly skilled professionals committed to ensuring your safety and to providing a world class fishing experience. The high quality Simms waders, boots and fishing gear are top notch. The chef-prepared food is amazing, and the lodge hospitality and ambience is exceptional.
What to take: Gore-Tex rain jacket, layers of clothing since you could have the 70s or rain and the 50s, fingerless gloves, Buff or similar face mask, polarized sunglasses, slip on lodge shoes, ankle high rubber boots
Note to mobility-challenged people like me: if you have 70 degrees of knee flexibility and can walk with a trekking pole and stand for an hour at a time, this trip is very doable. Everything from arriving in Dillingham, boarding the comfortable small transport bus for a 40 minute drive to the large jet boat, then a 30-minute boat ride to the lodge and a 125 yard walk up a gently sloping groomed trail to the lodge ( which has a ramp.) Guest rooms are located on the first or second floor.
A dozen or fewer guests at a time allow you to get to know some very interesting people and to learn how Rob and his crew responsibly operate this lodge in an environmentally responsible manner, with a small footprint. You can also go on flyout trips offered by a highly experienced, top pilot, either to the equally amazing Kingfishers camp to fish for king salmon, or to a remote creek for a chance to catch the rainbow of a lifetime!

Fly fishing Alaska I stayed at Bearclaw Lodge last August with 9 other friends and had a great time The accommodations were nice. I shared a comfortable room w/a fellow angler. The guides were very good and we caught a lot of trophy sized fish. Since this was my first trip to Alaska, I don't have any other lodges to compare it to but I would go back for the fly-fishing.

A Great Fishing Experience This was my wife's and my second visit to Bear Claw Lodge on Lake Aleknagik near Dillingham Alaska. Rob Fuentes, the owner, and two of his guides, Brad and Chad, met us at the Dillingham airport in the lodge van for the short drive to Aleknagik village, where we caught his new boat to the lodge, about 30 minutes away.
We spent the next two days fishing for arctic char, Dolly Vardens, rainbow trout, grayling and sliver salmon in good weather, while my wife accompanied me in the boat with her photographic equipment. She got some great bear photos of one of the brown bears that haunt the river banks this time of the year bulking up on the last salmon of the season as they get ready to hibernate.
We had a large room at the top of the stairs across the hall from the bathroom. The only other guests, two from the Netherlands and one from the Washington State had rooms on the first floor, which also had the kitchen, dining room, and lounge area. The food and hospitallity were once again exceptional.
